DDR replaced parking lot lighting in the common areas of 14 shopping centers in Puerto Rico to lower energy consumption and reduce utility expenses. DDR partnered with WLS Lighting Systems to install Natural White® lighting technology. This technology draws less energy while emitting a higher-quality light. The company also installed netLiNK Controls™, which enables DDR to wirelessly control each individual parking lot light using an astronomical time clock for maximum efficiency and longevity. Moreover, the new program will extend bulb life expectancy by up to 40 percent. If the results of the program are in line with expectations, the partnership intends to deploy the program stateside in 2011.
